My mother had her second official memory test today. Her results show that her memory has improved!
Mom is being monitored due to our badgering for her to get care.
It was nearly two years ago that I finally managed to get to the UK to see my youngest grandbaby who had been born during the pandemic in Wales, and my dear mother.
I was not prepared for the decline in Mom’s memory and eyesight through the thirty months since I had seen her. Nor was I prepared for her lacklustre attitude to life in general and to the keeping of her home. Granted we had been through a pandemic with lockdowns and isolation.
My childhood home was always so spotless one could practically eat off the floors. But, due to Mom’s progressive cataracts making her unable to see the dirt building up, and her lethargy and muscle weakness, that was no longer the case.
Mom was also having anxiety attacks about her finances without any cause to be concerned.
During my stay with her I happened to have a three way conversation with a friend in South Africa and her boyfriend in the USA. He is a neurologist who stopped treating his patients with medication more than a decade ago.
It was suggested to me to take Mom off statins if she was being prescribed these drugs. I consulted with my siblings and it was agreed that I would accompany mother to her doctor’s appointment and explain that we would like to stop the statin prescription.
Our request was denied. I asked for a natural remedy for anxiety for Mom. I was told that the NHS was only allowed to prescribe pharmaceutical drugs.
I took Mom home and explained to her that her symptoms could all be side effects of statins and that we would like her not to take them even though they were arriving in her weekly dosette box. Mom has never yet forgotten that instruction!
Mom’s concerning symptoms:
memory loss
muscle weakness in her limbs
bloating and gas
dizziness
mental confusion and anxiety
high blood sugar
There is noticeable and measurable improvement.
Mom continues to take care of herself and has had her lenses replaced. Being able to see more clearly has given her the ability to once more read and do her word puzzles. She once more interacts with others in weekly Bingo gatherings. She cleans her home to a higher standard again.
Live well and find the happy,
