The Power of the Patch
Imagine having no pain, sleeping through the night, having more energy, and (gasp) . . . reversing aging!
Hi — What keeps us youthful? What keeps us glowing and full of energy?
Is it a good night’s sleep? Is it a healthy living-foods diet? Is it a positive mindset? Is it constant activity? When I asked google that question, the answer was movement, movement, movement.
A few years back I had the pleasure of visiting a friend on her 100th birthday. I asked the inevitable question - what is your secret to longevity, Olive? Her answer concurred with google’s - I played tennis every week. She also added that she baked two cakes every weekend… from scratch with wholesome ingredients. Bless her, Olive lived five more years.
Recently, I took care of 99yo Joy, who shared stories of her time in the RAF during WWII. Her mind and will as strong as ever. Her body starting to become frail. I met her friend from schooldays, Betty, a 95yo who lives alone and still drives. Betty’s son lives in a gated estate for over 50s and worries about his mother. He nags her to come and get a place in that estate so that she will have help and safety. Betty laughs and says that she’s not ready for that yet!
I’m lucky to know so many people going for their century. Many of us, much younger, have bodies weakened by stress, disease and the environment. We live in times where our very sustenance has been adulterated, our air is polluted, our bodies bombarded with radiation. The general way of life requires an unnatural amount of sitting, to say the least. Machines do the physical labour while AI does our creative thinking.
Perhaps we reach retirement and want to start living that idyllic life of actively growing our own food correctly, living in the clean air of the countryside, perhaps even find a spot with no 5G radiation where we can climb a mountain… before breakfast every morning.
Ralph Waldo Emmerson summed it up, “Live in the sun, swim in the sea, breathe the wild air.”
But by 60 many people are already on chronic meds and have bad knees and degenerating spines. Their memory is shot and pain is a debilitating part of life.
There is good news!
Science points to stem cell decline as a factor in the aging process. Stem cells are highly active in the developing foetus supporting rapid growth. Activity changes to one of maintaining homeostasis in young adulthood when growth has slowed or ceased. In older age the activity becomes one of gate-keeping tumour suppressor expression. This may reduce regenerative capacity (Janzen et al., 2006: Krishnamurthy et al., 2006: Molofsky et al., 2006).
The question begging to be asked then, is how can we stimulate stem cell activity to regeneration as we get older?
Imagine this… each morning placing a small patch in a strategic place on your body. For the next 12 hours this patch activates your stem cells to regenerate your body.
It’s not futuristic! It is now!
