February in South Africa is a great time for fruit-lovers!
Delicious mangos this year and loads of stone fruits all yummalicious. I am blessed to be getting gifts of organic Hanepoort grapes — sweet as honey.
A few nights ago, I sat down to eat my mono meal of organic Hanepoorts while my grandie was given her plate of jacket potatoes loaded with cheese and a side of avo (by my daughter).
We were side eyeing each other and to be honest I was envying her dinner while gobbling my bowl of deliciousness.
3-year-old granddaughter hasn't been eating much lately and especially not much variety in the fruit and veg department. It was a huge WIN when she asked me if I would peel a grape for her to try.
I peeled and deseeded a juicy green globe and popped it into her mouth after a tentative test lick. She then proceeded to make laps around the table stopping for a grape to be popped into her mouth after each. These victories delight me!
I Flew to Victoria Falls!
It has been a week of blessings! I was taken to one of the seven wonders of the world for a flying visit.
WOW! Having grown up in Zimbabwe and never having been to Victoria Falls it was a dream come true. Thank you Lorraine, for making this girl's heart overflow with joy.
Recollections of eating my favourite fruit as a child on a farm in Zimbabwe came back to me... tearing the skin off with my teeth and biting into the dark orange flavour-filled flesh, the juice running down my bare arms, sucking all the goodness from off that hairy pip, mango fibres flossing my teeth...
Yes, it does sound rather wild and uncivilised but it was pure joy for this 8-year-old.
When I arrived at Victoria Falls, there wasn't a mango to be seen on the banks of the majestic and mighty Zambezi — but breakfasts of pineapple and watermelon were welcome.
Live well and find the happy!
